| Tony Winn is back as our compere this year. Not only has Tony played here as a solo artist, he has also appeared with Songs from the Blue House and Rainy Day Women. Kelvedon resident Tony is also the guy who created the Kelvedon Festival back in 1999, so we are tickled pink to invite him back to host this year’s event.
So what can we tell you about Tony? Well, he is an accomplished performer who writes his own songs and performs as a solo singer/songwriter accompanying himself on acoustic guitar and banjo -or not. There are many formats - 1) The straight solo act with an assortment of love songs, blues, raps, social songs, protest songs, funny songs and unclassifyable songs. 2) "Singing in the Bath" a solo show where he sits in a tin bath and performs a range of funny, quirky songs and poems - as performed at the Edinburgh Fringe. 3) Tony singing, accompanied by Steven Turnbull on piano doing a set of mainly love songs. 4) With his band "Rainy Day Women" which covers Dylan songs in their own way with Dave Weston on bass, Mick Overy on lead guitar and Kelvedon festival stalwart Arthur Smith on drums - soon to add Steven Turnbull on keyboards. 5) He also plays banjo with a funky little band from Essex called "Songs from the Blue House".
He now has 6 CDs released on his own label - all available through his website: Tony Winn
In 2005 he became a professional actor going under the name of Ellis Winn since someone had already registered Tony Winn with Equity. So far, the pinnacle of Ellis' acting career appears to be the starring role in a TV advert for news magazine 'The Week'. If, by some starnge quirk of fate, you missed the advert it can be viewed at the following location... Advert
Tony has also developed a songwriting workshop for schools. This is a session that he developed specially for primary school children and has now performed successfully at a number of schools in Essex.
So... Singer, Songwriter, Poet, Actor, Teacher, oh, and Failed Ventriloquist! We can confirm that was one career at which he was absolutely RUGGISH!!! OK, taxi for Steve!
