Festival 2006
Festival 2010 Line-Up
We Need Your Support!
As the festival has grown year by year, so have the costs, overheads and health and safety requirements. It is getting harder and harder to keep on top of these so to keep this festival free we need your support!

For more details of our support opportunities please click here.

Keep the Festival free!
General NewsWe are always looking for new ways to support the Kelvedon Free Music Festival.

Are there any local businesses out there who would like to help support the festival and keep it FREE? If so, please email us directly at: info@kelvedonfreemusicfestival.co.uk.
Festival 2006 - Sophie Nash replaced by Travellor in Acoustic Tent
Festival NewsUnfortunately Sophie Nash has had to drop out of this year's Kelvedon Free Music Festival. It's all for the love of music though as a very important piano exam clashes with her proposed slot in the Acoustic Tent. We wish her the very best of luck and hope to see her back next year. However, Sophie will be playing at The Angel in Kelvedon the night after the festival - Sunday 9th July.

So, step in Travellor, our reserve band, who take up the opening 12.30pm slot.

Festival 2006 - Koopa's 'Stand Up 4 England' on it's way to the top!
General NewsYesterday saw the launch of Koopa's bid for World Cup glory with the release of their soon-to-be-anthem 'Stand Up 4 England'. Koopa will be playing on the Main Stage at this years Kelvedon Free Music Festival, so a gentle plug won't do any harm, especially as Koopa will be donating 20p from every CD sold and 10p from every single sold online to Barnardo’s.

We've had a huge amount of interest from bands from Essex and beyond. Thanks to all those who've been in touch - we're sorry we can't accommodate everyone, but rest assured that we'll keep your details on file for future festivals!

It's official - the 2006 Festival press release...!
Festival NewsThe 8th annual Kelvedon Free Music Festival is all set to take place on Saturday 8th July at the recreation ground. We are all set for one of the best days yet with a staggering range of Essex based talent ready to entertain you for seven and a half hours kicking off at midday with this year’s Battle of the Bands winners Burning Trolleys.

This year's festival will see the introduction of the 'Acoustic Tent'. It's a big step forward for us and is sponsored and promoted by Shutupfool Studios. Jane and Debbie from the studio have joined our committee and are helping to drive the festival onwards and upwards. We hope to have 8 to 10 bands playing 20+ minute sets between 12.30pm and 5.30pm. Artists booked to appear so far include Sophie Nash, Rizzo as well as And His Voice Became.

On the main stage this year we have a diverse range of bands including ska band New Town Kings, one of the hardest working bands in Essex, The Red Hot Radiators, and the absolutely brilliant, if slightly frightening, Scary Bitches. We’ll also see the return of the Festival’s founder Tony Winn who, along with his band the Rainy Day Women, will be playing a tribute set to the legendary Bob Dylan. Rising stars Koopa will show us why they are starting to trouble the charts and happily Automatic Slim will be back again following their slightly curtailed set last year.

Bringing the whole show to a close will be the mighty Counterfeit Quo, the biggest and best Status Quo tribute act you will find. They will take us through an adrenaline charged set that will see the band crash their way through Quo's best known hits including Caroline, Down Down, Whatever You Want and Rocking All Over The World whilst still paying tribute to glorious earlier albums like Ma Kellys', Dog of Two Head, Piledriver, Hello, 'Quo' etc.

Along with the usual stalls and side shows this is going to be a fantastic day, come along, bring your family and friends and enjoy the music, you don’t want to miss this one.

Battle of the Bands 2006
Events NewsWe had a fantastic night of entertainment at this year's Battle of the Bands and it was a very tough night for the judges who had to choose between 6 high quality young bands. The evening was kicked off in great style by 'Fusian' from Thurstable playing a mix of rock, punk, funk and blues. Next up, also from Thurstable, was 'Collision Theory' who got the crowd going with their interpretation of Metallica's "Enter Sandman".

Colchester based 'Slash Dementia' gave us a slice of pure metal followed by South Essex rockers 'Burning Trolleys'. The final two acts were Kelvedon boys 'Downside Up' and 'Find a Cure' who clearly had a big following on the night. It was a hard decision but at the end of the day judges Steve and Pete, from ShutUpFool Studios and Charles Hedger, all very experienced musicians, awarded the prize to 'Burning Trolleys' and we'll meet them again when they open the Kelvedon Free Music Festival on Saturday July 8th at noon.

Thanks to all who came and supported the bands on the night, as a fund raiser it was one of our most successful events yet. Keep checking the site for news of other events and updates on the acts appearing at the festival itself.
Festival 2006 and Battle of the Bands...
Festival NewsPlanning for the 2006 Kelvedon Free Music Festival is well underway - this year the event will be held on Saturday 8th July at the Recreation Ground as usual. The next event leading up to that will be our third Battle of the Bands competition which will be held on Friday 24th February in Feering Community Hall. Doors will open at 7.30pm.

Five school age bands will each play a 20 minute set, which must include at least 2 original compositions, in front of an audience of friends, family, their own fans and, crucially, a panel of judges. The judges are all experienced musicians in established bands and they will be looking at the bands technique, stage presence and quality of their own songs.

The winners will, as in previous years, play the opening set of the Kelvedon Free Music Festival - 2004 saw 'Landslide' set us off at a cracking pace and 'Peter Cat', with their unique funk rock sound, got the 2005 Festival off in fine style.

The 'Battle of the Bands' has been a great night out in its own right and if you want to come along tickets are £5 on the door. The standard has always been high, 'Find A Cure' were unlucky last year and are going to be one of the bands at this years event, the bands are all practising hard already.

We continue to make the Kelvedon Music Festival free to enter but as ever support is always welcome. If you are interesting in providing sponsorship, it truly is a fantastic event to be involved in, or just helping out on the day contact us through the website.
